1. Cultural and Racial dalam kutipan di cerita Indian camp.
Untuk menemukan kutipan dalam suatu cerita memang tidak mudah, apalagi harus dengan syarat yang harus ditemukan seperti Cultural dan Racial. Untuk menjawab pertanyaan diatas maka kita harus teliti dengan kalimat yang akat dibuktikan kebenarannya. Berikut kutipan yang akan saya angkat : “The Indians rowed with quick choppy strokes. Nick lay back with his father’s arm around him. It was cold on the water.
The Indian who was rowing them was working very hard, but the other boat moved farther ahead in the mist all the time.” “Across the bay they found the other boat beached. Uncle George was smoking a cigar in the dark. The young Indian pulled the boat way up the beach. Uncle George gave both the Indians cigars.” Dari kutipan berikut, saya dapat menemukan beberapa perbedaan budaya dan ras, dimana orang kulit hitam dianggap memiliki status yang lebih rendah dari orang kulit putih hal ini terlihat saat Nick beserta ayah dan pamannya hanya diam saja saat kedua orang Indian mendorong perahu mereka tanpa bantuan sedikitpun, sementara perahu mereka sudah lebih dulu melaju. “Where are we going, Dad?” Nick asked.
“Over to the Indian camp. There is an Indian lady very sick.”
“Oh,” said Nick. Dari kutipan ini juga terlihat bahwa orang kulit putih lebih pintar dari orang kulit hitam, Ayah nick yang seorang dokter membantu suku Indian yang akan melahirkan. “Why did he kill himself, Daddy?”
“I don’t know, Nick. He couldn’t stand things, I guess.”
Do many men kill themselves, Daddy?”
“Not very many, Nick.”
“Do many women?”
“Hardly ever.”
Don’t they ever?”
“Oh, yes. They do sometimes.” Pada kutipan ini, Nick bertanya mengapa laki-laki Indian bunuh diri sementara anaknya telah dilahirkan. Nick berfikir dia tidak akan mati dengan cara seperti itu. Disini terdapat perbedaan budaya terlihat dimana nick sebagai orang kulit putih lebih memikirkan masa depan dibandingkan orang kulit hitam.
2. Argumentasi tentang A bundle of letters yang berkaitan dengan budaya yang digambarkan di empat Negara ; inggris, francis, amerika dan german.
“The position woman does not seem to me at all satisfactory, and that is a point, you know, on which I feel very strongly. It seems to me that in England they play a very faded-out part, and those with whom I conversed had a kind of depressed and humiliated tone; a little dull, tame look, as if they were used to being snubbed and bullied, which made me want to give them a good shaking.”

Dari cerita A bundle of Letters saya dapan memperlihatkan beberapa perbedaan budaya di empat Negara tersebut.
Di Inggris sudah menjadi budaya bahwa wanita dianggap lemah karena sifatnya yang penurut dan pendiam sehingga cenderung mudah dicerca dan dibuli oleh orang lain, berbeda dengan budaya inggris, di Francis wanita lebih di hormati, wanita memiliki kehormatan yang tinggi di Negara ini karena dianggap kuat dan pekerja keras, karena bisa mengatur hidupnya sendiri walau tanpa bantuan laki-laki seperti pada kutipan “my cousine de Maisonrouge, that grande belle femme, who, after having married, en secondes noces—there had been, to tell the truth, some irregularity about her first union—a venerable relic of the old noblesse of Poitou, was left, by the death of her husband, complicated by the indulgence of expensive tastes on an income of 17,000 francs, on the pavement of Paris, with two little demons of daughters to bring up in the path of virtue.” . Sedangkan budaya di amerika wanita bebas dan merdeka dalam bertindak, tak ada yang membedakan antara laki-laki dan wanita di Amerika selain gender. Sedangkan di German orang lebih peduli dengan lingkungan mereka. Mereka cenderung kritis dalam menilai dan memperhatikan kelemahan dan kelebihan seseorang.
3. The general sucked in his breath and smiled. "I congratulate you," he said. "You have won the game." Rainsford did not smile. "I am still a beast at bay," he said, in a low, hoarse voice. "Get ready, General Zaroff." The general made one of his deepest bows. "I see," he said. "Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford." . . . He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided.
Dari kutipan tersebut, terlihas seperti salah satu diantara mereka akan ada yang dijadikan sebagai makanan anjing (aka nada yang kalah dalam permainan berbahaya ini). Saat general zaroff berkata demikian, sepertinya dia tidak benar-benar mengakui kemenangan rainsford, ini seperti sebuah sindiran dari zaroff. Akan tetapi rainsford tetap bersihkukuh untuk menujukkan bahwa dia ingin memusnahkan zaroff, menurutnya dengan terbunuhnya zaroff dia bisa menyelamatkan kehidupan orang-orang tak berdosa yang menjadi mangsa.
4. Menemukan symbol dari kutipan pada cerpen “Hills like white elephants”.
Symbol dalam sastra merupakan sesuatu yang memiliki makna lebih daripada sesuatu itu. Dapat berupa benda, orang, kejadian, atau tindakan dan lainnya. Yang mana memiliki makna khusus dalam sebuah cerita yang bisa menggambarkan makna yang sebenarnya.
“they look like elephants” she said. “they’re lovely hills,” she said. “they don’t really look like white elephants. I just meant of their skin through the trees” Dari kutipan-kutipan tersebut dapat diketahui bahwa symbol dalam kutipan itu bisa melambangkan yang mengakibatkan kehamilan. Gajah putih di sini juga berarti menggambarkan wanita yang sedang mengandung dan warna putihnya itu seperti kesucian. “we’ll be fine afterward. Just like we were before”. “what makes you think so?”. The girl said. “that’s the only thing that bothers us. It’s the only thing that’s made us unhappy.” Di sisi lain symbol white elephants dalam kutipan tersebut bisa menjadi sesuatu yang buruk bagi sang pria karena pria itu menganggap bayi itu merupakan hal besar yang dapat merugikan di kemudian hari. Karena itu dia menyuruh sang wanita untuk aborsi yang dianggap sebagai hal kecil yang padahal itu masalah besar.
5. Argument tentang cerita My Son the Murderer
Cerita ini bercerita tentang hubungan seorang anak dengan ayahnya yang tidak harmonis, sang anak menganggap bahwa sang ayah terlalu memperhatikannya.
“Try to come. These things, if you give them time, all pass away. If it look better to you, come on over. Even if don’t look so good, come on over anyway because it might relieve your tension and worry that you are under. It’s not so good for your heart at your age if you carry to much worry around” the murderer dapat diartikan sebagai pembunuh, namun dalam cerita ini tidak ada pembunuhan-pembunuhan seperti yang telah kita bayangkan sebelumnya. Murder dalam cerita ini bisajadi diinterpretasikan sebagai pembunuhan karakter . dimana si tokoh harry membunuh harapan orangtuanya dan harapan dirinya sendiri. Dia beranggapan bahwa dalam situasi perang seperti itu dia tidak akan bisa melakukan apapun, bahkan untuk mencari pekerjaan setelah ia lulus kuliah. Selain itu, perlakuan dari ayah harry juga yang membuat harry merasa bebas dan terganggu. Hingga pada akhirnya dia tidak bisa melakukan apapun yang dia inginkan.
6. The Firebird’s Nest
Terlihat dari ceritanya, cerita ini bercerita tentang Mr. maharaj yang merupakan pangeran dari india. Firebird’s merupakan jelmaan dari Mr. Maharaj, Firebird atau burung api merupakan burung yang jika terbakar akan mengecil, namun masih hidup dan akan membesar kembali. Kisah ini memang menyedihkan, yaitu berawal dari sakit hati nya karena ditinggal istrinya sendiri yang merupakan seorang amerika. Mr. Maharaj merasa sakit hati dan membakar setiap pasangan suami istri lainnya. Cerita ini menceritakan tentang sebuah dendam yang hanya bisa habis dan hilang bila dendam itu dihilangkan oleh yang merasakannya. Begitu pula dengan tragedy mistis di india ini yang akan terus memakan korban selama Mr. Maharaj tidak terpuaskan dendamnya.

Make a change to my High School
High school is a place where students get several lesson for 3 years. High school is the final stage of school before they are entering to university later. As a student, certainly I ever feel how bored I am when I life in High School. I come, sit, listen, and record what the teacher said. All felt was constantly like that. Then appear the question, what change would you make to your high school to make it a more appealing place for students? In my High school I am so bored to spend my time for 3 years, because I just study and study.
I want to change my high school. I want my school used to be appeal place and can be favored by the students without compromising the quality of the school. How? First, I would make a change from the system of learning. Second, learning place not only in the classroom. And the last, classrooms are not monotonous with one color only. Three ways that have been mentioned have their own reasons.
For example: first way, I would make a change from the system of learning, learning system in my high school was very tedious. Teacher and students jus entered the classroom and give the material and students have to record it. Occasionally, there would be a presentation, but often teachers have a lot of explaining. That I want, between teachers and students must be balanced, and students not only accept the material but they could evolve the material.
Second, learning place not only in the classroom. because it is boring if just study in the classroom. Students need a recreation to refresh their brain. If they are study out of class, they will get a new thing. They will get different process of learning and make they’re happy.
Third, classrooms are not monotonous with one color only. Classroom also is influencing students in study. If the atmosphere of classroom is not appealing, then students will be bored to be there. So, I want to make the classroom of my high school to be colorful. So, students are happy and can learn without getting bored.

“Iedul Adha” it’s time to share the happiness to each other
“Iedul Adha” is celebrated on the tenth day of “dzulhijjah”, the Islamic month according to the lunar Islamic calendar. “Iedul Adha” is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslim worldwide or an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to follow Allah’s command to sacrifice his son Ishmael (Samuel).
Muslim around the world observes this event. For that reason, Muslim who can afford to do so also sacrifices an animal. At ‘Iedul adha’ many Muslim going to the Mosque for prayers, dressed in their best clothes, and thanking Allah for All the blessing they have received and open house in their home. As a Muslim, I and my family do like another Muslims on the world.
The night before the feast, I with my friend or my family usually echoed each “takbir” on the road which is a sign of the start of “iedul adha”. Crowded traffic and parades also participate welcoming the feast, because that is a habit which made by Muslims in my hometown.
In my hometown the most important and special event of “iedul adha” is Just like the Muslim in the world. After prays, people are usually asking forgiveness by each other. On this day all the Muslim also forfeit their domestic animal like sheep, goat and cow representing Abraham’s forfeit. when slaughtering sacrificial animals are carried out by Muslims who are able and assisted by other Muslims that only able to help with services, Those make a moment that unites the good relationship. And of course, usually there are special foods associated with this celebration. Such as “Eid mubarok”, we ate some special foods like “ketupat” and “opor ayam” has become a habit and a tradition typical food of major holidays of Muslim. “Iedul Adha” is one of two of feast is the most awaited moment, because in addition we can clean ourselves and we can also to gather with our family.
A lot of things to Enjoy of this festival, such as I can gathered with family, can got a great meal, could participate in the committee of qurban implementation, etc. when someone ask me “do you think such festival are important for a society?” I think this festival is most important for a society, because “Iedul adha” made the people can feel a pleasure. Not only rich people are happy, but all the people of each circle can feel happiness. “Iedul Adha” also teaches us sincerity; we can share the happiness to each other.
